Helping people with CANY

How Do I get Involved?
Think of all the community organizations in New York.  Then imagine them all being available to you under one roof.  Community Assets NY is growing every day as new organizations enter their information into this unique system.  Each organization that registers with CANY makes the system more useful.  The CANY premise is simple: Put community resources within easy reach for those who need help; CANY does so by providing free listings in its dynamic, searchable database for local New York organizations that help those in need.

Who belongs in CANY?
Health care organizations, human service organizations, civic organizations, government organizations, neighborhood associations, faith-based organizations, schools and colleges, economic developers and more.  Are you a member of a community based social organization who would like to enter your organization’s resources and program information into CANY?  Any non-profit organization is welcome to register to become listed in CANY.

How do I register my organization to be included in CANY?
First, designate a “CANY supervisor” for your organization.  The “CANY supervisor” is the individual in your organization who enters your contact and program information (and events and volunteer opportunities if you so choose) into the CANY database.  The supervisor is also responsible for keeping your organization’s program and contact information up to date and useful for individuals searching for your services.  The supervisor may then click on the “To Register or Log in” button on the home page or click here now.  To request listing of your organization in the CANY searchable database, follow the “organization registration” instructions.  If you would like more information, contact your local Community Action Agency.  To find your local organization, point your Web browser to http://www.nyscaaonline.org/ and click on “Local Organization.”  Qualified organizations will be contacted with further instructions.

Organizations that choose to be Service Providers for the Community Calendar must complete a core registration form.  At the bottom of that core form, choose the check box for the Community Calendar.  The Community Assets NY Administrator will contact you with policies and the passwords that will allow the organization to enter community events or meetings.

Context sensitive help is available on each screen by clicking on underlined field names.  A dialog box will appear in a smaller browser window with help information.
